Brief chronology of the formation of demographic policy in Belarus

A Demographic Policy is an organic and integrated set of procedures designed to influence population growth and movement directly and indirectly in accordance with predetermined objectives. Such policy can affect age-sex distribution, marital patterns, health, and the geographical distribution of people within a country. Demographic policy must be an integral art of social welfare policy, of which socioeconomic development is of the most important aspects.

1995 – the National Committee on Population was established;

1998 – the Concept of the state demographic policy and the Main directions for the implementation of demographic policy, taking into account the sustainable development of the economy in the transition period were approved;

2001 – issues of ensuring demographic security were included in the National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus;

2002 – the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Demographic Security of the Republic of Belarus” was adopted;

2007-2010 – implementation of the National Program of Demographic Security of the Republic of Belarus;

2010 – the demographic sphere is for the first time singled out as a separate block in the new National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus;

2011-2015 – National program of demographic security of the Republic of Belarus;

2016-2020 – State program "Health of the people and demographic security of the Republic of Belarus";

2021-2025 – State program "Health of the people and demographic security of the Republic of Belarus";

2021-2030 – National Strategy "Active Longevity-2030".
